Granchester Shoot Tomorrow

Thank you everyone who has emailed me saying they are interested in
attending the shoot tomorrow morning.

It looks like its set to snow – this might make conditions a little
difficult to shoot, but we are still planning on going ahead. We will meet
outside Kings College at 7am and head out towards Grantchester. We might
not make it all the way there, but we can always return to Cambridge for
some breakfast.

Come along if you’re not yet a member of PhoCUS – this will be a great time
to sign up for membership (£10 for a year, £20 for life). Otherwise
non-members will be £2 and members are free. There is no limit on the
number of people who can attend.

If conditions do look dreadful (i.e. blizzard) then I will send an email by
6.30am tomorrow morning to cancel the shoot, but if you don’t get an email
presume it will go ahead.

Don’t forget to charge up your cameras and wrap up warm! See you outside
Kings College at 7am!

Pub Meet TONIGHT

I hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas break and are back in Cambridge
refreshed and ready for another productive term!

The first event this year will be a Pub Meet at The Regal (Wetherspoons) so
that you can pick up membership cards – if you don’t have them already -
and can have a nice catch up with other members. The committee will also be
there to discuss this term’s plans and gather suggestions!

Please do come along if you can. We’ll be there from 8pm til late so even
if you can only manage one drink, it would be nice to see some friendly
faces!

This term’s diary of events – including some shoots in the imminent future
(using new equipment), a day trip, an interesting event at the botanic
gardens and much more – will be sent out at the end of this week. We will
also attach a list of events to the facebook group and website.

In the meantime, please do get in contact with me or the committee if you
have any queries.

I look forward to seeing you soon,

Helen Simmons
President 2011-2012

Annual Competition: 2½ weeks left

The Cambridge Admissions Office invites you to enter its annual student photography competition.

The theme this year is ‘Cambridge Student Life: More than just punting?’ and we’re looking for images that show all of the different aspects of student life at Cambridge (eg social/recreational activities, clubs and societies, College life etc).  Entries could show moments of day-to-day (or night) life or particular events or occasions.

First prize is £100 of vouchers (from a choice of Jessops, Waterstones or John Lewis) and a one-to-one masterclass with a professional photographer.  There are also two runners up prizes of £100 of vouchers.

The competition is open to all current undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge and the closing date is Friday 25 November 2011.  There’s no limit to the number of photographs a student can submit and they don’t have to have been taken in the current year of study (please note that all images must be high resolution – at least 300 dpi).

[CLOSED] Cambridge Round the Clock – Student Photography Competition

Cambridge Admissions Office invites you to enter its annual University-wide photography competition.

This year the competition is entitled ‘Cambridge Round the Clock’ and we’re hoping to receive images which illustrate how students see their life in Cambridge at different times of the day and night. Once again, we hope to use the images in our printed and online publications.

And this time there’s an added twist. Not only will we be looking for images which showcase strong photography skills, but we’re also looking for images that have been creatively and digitally enhanced. Prizes will be awarded for the best image in both categories (natural/unaltered, and artistically enhanced) and also a prize for the best image overall. Up for grabs is a master class with a professional photographer and £100 of vouchers for either Jessops, Waterstones of John Lewis.

The deadline for entries is Friday 26 November 2010 and more information can be found on our website http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/photocomp/
